From Waste Tyres to Certified Building Materials
“We built our business on a simple loop — tyres for roads, roads for tyres. Every tonne of waste tyre we process stays in circulation instead of going to waste, and our verified EPDs now prove it in numbers.”
Sustainability and Compliance Team, Recykl S.A.
The Challenge
Poland generates roughly 300,000 tonnes of waste tyres a year — a stream that cannot be landfilled and is toxic to burn, yet holds valuable materials and embodied energy. Turning end-of-life tyres into construction-grade products takes heavy investment and the credibility to show they perform as well as virgin alternatives.
The Solution
Recykl Group is Central-Eastern Europe's leading tyre recycler, processing on the order of 140,000-150,000 tonnes of waste tyres a year across three Polish plants into a full circular-economy portfolio — GREEN POWDER rubber powder and the SMAPOL fibre additive for mineral-asphalt road surfaces — while holding ISCC Plus certification and expanding capacity across the region. Recykl documented both GREEN POWDER and SMAPOL with independently verified EPDs (EN 15804+A2) published in the EPD Polska register.
The Result
The verified EPDs give customers usable data for their own Scope 3 reporting; Recykl's recycled products are already specified in real infrastructure such as the S6 expressway and exported across Europe — turning a national waste challenge into a documented, lower-carbon input for road construction.
Recykl Organizacja Odzysku S.A. is part of Grupa Recykl — the largest end-of-life tyre recycler in Central and Eastern Europe. Each year, the group’s plants in Śrem, Krosno Odrzańskie and Chełm process more than 140,000 tonnes of waste tyres, converting material that cannot be landfilled or safely incinerated into certified building products with documented environmental impact.

Certified Products from Tyre Recycling
In October 2025, Recykl became the first tyre recycler in Central and Eastern Europe to achieve EPD certification for two products. The environmental declarations, issued by EPD Polska in accordance with EN 15804, cover the full life cycle from plant gate to delivery — independently verified and publicly available.

GREEN POWDER
Finely ground rubber granulate from recycled tyres. Used as a bitumen modifier, infill for sports surfaces, impact-absorbing mats for playgrounds, and bound rubber components.

SMAPOL®
Rubber powder for mineral-asphalt mixtures. Roads built with rubber-modified asphalt show higher flexibility, improved crack resistance, and noise reduction of several decibels.
What an EPD Certificate Means for Contractors
An Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) does not certify that a product is „green” — it certifies that its environmental impact has been measured, transparently reported, and independently verified in accordance with a recognised standard. For specifiers, engineers, and procurement teams, this means concrete data comparable across products — not a marketing claim.
In the context of growing sustainable construction requirements (LEED, BREEAM rating systems, green public procurement criteria in Poland and the EU), Recykl’s EPD certifications position GREEN POWDER and SMAPOL® ahead of mandatory market requirements.
