FOLIAREX: High-Performance Roofing Membranes with Verified Environmental Standards

The Challenge

FOLIAREX is one of Poland's largest producers of roofing and waterproofing membranes, running three plants that process tens of thousands of tonnes of polyethylene and polypropylene a year. At that scale even small inefficiencies become large material and energy footprints — and the construction market increasingly demands documented, comparable environmental performance, not general claims.

The Solution

FOLIAREX engineered roughly 90% of its range around homogeneous, single-polymer recipes that are recyclable by design, and holds manufacturing waste below 3% — almost entirely fed back into production. Its in-house recovery operation returns over 500 tonnes of polyethylene to circulation each month, while the company insulates heating equipment, replaces machinery with energy-saving technology and develops lower-temperature films to cut energy use. This work is backed by an ISO 9001 quality system, RecyClass and EuCertPlast recycling certifications and a Blue Angel ecolabel. The verified EPD published in the EPD Polska register documents this performance product by product.

The Result

FOLIAREX can now give architects and specifiers auditable environmental data rather than marketing language, strengthening its position in green-building specifications across Poland and Western Europe.
