The Challenge
Primary aluminium is one of the most carbon-intensive industrial materials, and post-consumer aluminium scrap is often difficult to recycle. As a supplier of foundry alloys to the automotive and industrial sectors, Alumetal faced growing demand for verified data on the footprint of the metal entering its customers' supply chains.
The Solution
Alumetal built its business on recovering hard-to-recycle aluminium rather than relying on primary metal: across four plants (about 280,000 tonnes/year capacity) its recycled foundry alloys run on up to 94% recycled material, more than half of it post-consumer scrap. The company invests in decarbonisation, including a photovoltaic installation at its Kety plant generating roughly 1,000 MWh a year, and documented the outcome with an independently verified EPD published in the EPD Polska register.
The Result
The verified EPD shows an average footprint of 2.44 kg CO2e per kilogram of aluminium — less than one sixth of the global average for primary aluminium — giving automotive and industrial customers exact, transparent supply-chain data.
